I guess this could be tasty… Not sure, though…

Made in Hawaii is a special convention for all things Hawaiian. It would be the equivalent to a large Farmer’s market where we are. They had everything from jewelry to food to flowers all made in Hawaii and made available to locals and tourists alike.

We happened by a fabric store Jenn wanted to see. Even in California, there aren’t many like this around with such a good assortment and stock. Many patterns were special Hawaiian colors and prints.

Local businesses are taking over traditional industries. This old sugar mill is a bit off the beaten path, but it has been outfitted with a handmade soap and surfboards.

Off of BYU Hawaii is the Polynesian Culture Center. The best part of the day was learning about the authentic Hawaiian Hula which is really a sacred dance performed by men with motions that tell a story.

One of the more restful respites was having brunch at a local golf course. They had a delicious spread with everything from sushi to crab and even chocolate macadamian nut pies. This was by far the best food we’ve gotten at any local dining establishment.

Many of the plants found in Hawaii are endemic only here. Isolation and years of generations has produce unique and colorful plant and animal life. Many of these small lizards can be found commonly throughout the island and in Uncle Loren’s bath towel.

Only about fifteen percent of the population of Hawaii are native Hawaiians. Hawaii has been culturally and nationally changing for over the past hundred years.
